The Chester County Commissioners made an official proclamation March 21 in celebration of Chester County’s leading industry and all the men and women who make it possible. According to recent employment data from JobsEQ, agriculture is responsible for approximately 9,000 jobs in the county from on-farm work to induced jobs in industries like retail stores that are supported when ag workers spend their wages. New Ag Council board member Deirdre Flemming of Two Gander Farm (Downingtown, Pa.) accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Council.
“The county’s rich agricultural heritage and world-class prime soil make this region a great area for farm businesses like mine,” said Flemming. “Not only does agriculture immensely benefit our local economy but it provides a quality of life for all residents that cannot be measured in dollars and cents alone.”
