Springton Manor Farm maintains bluebird nesting boxes to enhance bluebird populations in our area. Park volunteer Ian Plane monitors the nesting boxes weekly, counting the eggs and nestlings. He also helps resolve any nesting box problems for this beneficial insect eating bird.
When eggs started to disappear despite the usual predator deterrents, he consulted with the State County Coordinator for the Bluebird Society of Pennsylvania, Ken Leister, and Springton Manor Farm’s Maintenance Foreman, Jerry Battisto. They looked at options to modify the existing boxes to keep bluebird eggs safe from predators. As of the end of May 2016, Springton Manor Farm's bluebirds have fledged 28 birds.
