About the Trail Partnership

The Chester Valley Trail project is a partnership that involves inter-agency cooperation on many levels, including local, state and federal governments, area businesses and local residents, all committed to seeing it through to completion. The trail, in its multiple phases, affects the municipalities of East Caln, East and West Whiteland and Tredyffrin Townships and Downingtown Borough in Chester County, as well as Upper Merion Township and Bridgeport and Norristown Boroughs in Montgomery County. There is currently 13.5 miles of trail open in Chester County.

The Chester Valley Trail Extension Study is currently being conducted. This 3.5 mile (+/-) extension will provide connections to the existing Struble and East Branch Brandywine Trails in the Downingtown area. To provide public input, please complete the Citizen Survey.

About the Park Partnership

In June 1994, the Chester County Commissioners and the West Whiteland Township Supervisors jointly purchased 727 acres of land from the Church Farm School in heavily developed eastern Chester County to become a future park site, now referred to as Exton ParkFocusing on open space preservation as well as the recreational needs of a rapidly growing community, the Township and County developed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the details of the sale as well as a commitment to mutual cooperation in the park planning process.

The County portion includes the Chester Valley Trail, facilities and playground. The Township's property houses Pennypacker House, three multi-use fields, and the mowed pathways and trails surrounding the pond.
